Introducing Video Calls

Over the past year we’ve received many requests from Hosts and Guests for video calling, and we’re excited to finally offer this feature to our community.

We created video calling because we know that sometimes messaging or talking over the phone aren’t enough to truly get to know someone. This feature allows you to safely and securely connect with trusted Guests and Hosts to learn more about them and discuss the topics that are most important to you.

The feature is easy to use and accessible on mobile, tablet and desktop.

Here’s how it works:

Step 1: Set up a time/date with your potential housemate for a video call. Once you’re ready, click the “Start a video call” button in the messaging screen of the person you would like to chat with.

Tip: Nesterly will send a notification to your potential housemate letting them know that you are trying to reach them.

Step 2: You will be directed to a screen where you can test your video and microphone function before inviting the other person. To start the video call, click “Join Now”

Tip: If you do not see yourself on the screen, click the blue button with the camera symbol

Step 3: Chat with your potential housemate for as long as you like! You can use the two circular buttons to turn off your camera or mute when needed. When you’re ready to end the video call, click “End Video Call” and you will return back to the messaging screen.

Tip: For sample questions and topics to ask your potential housemate, take a look at our Interview Guide

**To ensure the health and safety of our community during COVID-19, we encourage potential housemates to first get to know one another remotely, through our video call feature, before proceeding to a socially distant in-person meeting, if necessary.
