As part of Noelle’s Master’s thesis, in partnership with the AgeLab at MIT, she distributed a survey to 15,000 people across the country to learn about their experiences and interest in the Nesterly model. The results were astounding. Not only have 3 out of 10 homeowners done homesharing in the past, but 4 out of 10 would consider doing it in the future. This is a huge validation of the Nesterly concept. Similarly, 3 out of 10 renters said they had done homesharing in the past, and a whopping 8 out of 10 would consider doing it in the future. Moreover, renters were overwhelmingly willing to do any basic household task in exchange for decreased rent.
Perhaps most inspiring though, was the fact that 2/3 of the 1,400 respondents wanted to stay involved with the effort and receive updates on homesharing opportunities near them. We’re still cutting the massive quantities of data from this 50+-question survey, but we’re encouraged by the results. Apparently we’re not the only ones ready to start making better use of America’s millions of spare bedrooms.
